If you would like any advice or just to talk through ideas, please let me know. I am also keen to support your classes to enable you to feel comfortable doing this.

Let me know how it goes!

  2. Think I've worked out how do post something. Was gonna try and get the Drama room for a lesson, but seems to be clashes all the time, honestly, not very accommodating of out Drama teacher...
Have booked the LT instead and getting some supplies form art. Will see how it goes.

  3. Have asked other MFL virtual buddies about cutaway and no-one has a clue! Comforting but worrying at the same time... If I do crack it though, it'll be very interesting.
In the process of choosing a group to work with - perhaps 9A1 who I've taught for three years or maybe it would be better to launch with a Y7 group. As you can see, this needs some thinking!

  4. Martin - I did speak to Jo in advance. Do you want me to have a word?
    Well done with your efforts.

Marie - Nice to know you are leading the field! It may be an idea to start with a group you are comfortable and then tae it onto others. Please let me and Taz know if you would like a hand. :o )

  6. Great! Do you want to give us the headlines here to get people (hopefully) encouraged?

  7. Ok, basically they loved it, loads preferred being in there to the normal room. Loads of space to do activities and then I set them work and told them where to find resources but other than that, work where you want. 3 girls were under a table without shoes, 2 lads by the microphone desk but surprisingly, they nearly all sat in a chair with exam table bit to do written work.

  8. I'm new to all this blog stuff so hope this works! I've drawn up a questionnaire, just trying to decide which of my lovely classes to give it to! Is the truth going to hurt...!

  10. I had a go at teaching a lesson without writing. It was a lesson that would normally have had a fair bit but we focussed mainly on discussion and pair work. Feedback was mixed, but most enjoyed the challenge too and they were still talking about the 'no-writing' lesson the following lesson!

I will share more next week...

Deffo need more help with modelling for cutaway. Tried it with 7B1 on Monday with a boardgame but I need a bit more guidance.

Used wallwisher for a plenary with Y11 today. Honest & fair responses (ouch!) to the question 'How can I help you more with preparing for your speaking test?'!

  12. N,

Would love to look at Songsmith as a possible learning tool/whole school purchase?

  13. Heya fellow Dare Devils,

I've not had much luck so far with my mission. In light of what was said at the meeting I picked 2 "B grade" year 11s to design a plenary on Fairtrade for last Friday's lesson. They prepared it, but the student went home half way through the lesson because he was poorly! He forgot it on Monday, and had a maths exam this afternoon. Alas, we will try it as a starter this Friday instead!!

Maybe I should select another Mission to do as back up!

  14. Hello again,

Here is a quick summary of my mission since I can't be in our next meeting.

Well, I designed my questionnaire and so far have given it to 8B4 and 7A2. So what have I learned?!

8B4 were fairly predictable really, half think that I'm a fab teacher and love everything I do with them and others just want experiments every lesson with no writing ever! One student in particular will only really enjoy science if it involves football and a trip to a football stadium, I'll let you guess who said that!

7A2 were all really positive about my lessons, especially Tyler Pack ,who even thinks that I give him too much attention! Most think that I explain things well but a fair few said that I talk too much. Of course they all enjoy the experiments but want even more. Only one student didn't like my teaching at all and was extremely negative, apparently because he or she hates science, still trying to guess who said it?!

Overall, I think I learned more about the likes and disliked of my students than the quality of my teaching. This is helpful but may have been of more use if the students had put names on the questionnaire!

Perhaps I'll try to talk less and throw in a few more experiments, plus 8B4 are keen to go on a trip somewhere.

This was a brief overview of things. I have emailed the questionnaire that I used to Nicole, so if you fancy using it with your classes please feel free. I hope your missions went well! Looking forward to the next one.

    See you soon
    Kerry
