In School variation

As you know we have been asked to present on In School Variation for the staff meeting on the 4th May.

I think this a real opportunity for us to help improve standards here, using your skills and knowledge.

How In School Variation Creates Barriers in School

I will asking all of you to take an area and to help with the staff session on Monday 4th May.

We will put items on the blog.

Thanks in advance

  1. HI

Thanks for your input and ideas yesterday on this. I think it would be a great idea for Dare Devils to start the observations with a focus on best practice and what we should include in a lesson plan.

Any ideas for the staff meeting?

  2. I think lesson plans are a fab starting point as this is an area will generate lots of discussion without any kind of 'blame' being attached. It's also something that will really help bring staff together and lead to a real boost to our colegiality (sp?)

Just a suggestion but as a starter to the activity, some kind of 'Diamond 9' with lesson plan pieces (l/o, group information and some less obvious ones) and the opportunity to create extra diamonds.

Let me know what you'd like me to do,

    Marie C

  3. Hi

I think the content of a lesson is an important variation that we need to reduce, however, combined leaders are looking at this at the moment, so it would be a bit of duplication.

Also, wanted to check when the staff meeting is? On the calendar it says 10th May. Anyways, please let me know what i can do?

  4. Staff Meeting is the 10th - I am a numpity. I agree with Marie - not heard of Diamond 9 - are there any links?

I think CT are looking at what students should expect in a lesson rather than what should be part of our lesson plans for observations/ normal practice.

Just found this bit - which may explain my thoughts better:

From a case study, one school created these...they remind me of you guys!

Appointing ‘cultural architects’ (DDs) for classroom practice
The leadership team identified key staff to model a new approach to classroom practice, who became the core of the cross-subject peer planning and coaching groups. These groups spread good practice and encourage a dialogue about learning. Staff are supported by line management coaching, continuing professional development, external consultants and bespoke support to ensure that “no colleague is left behind”.

“There are so many leaders here at so many levels that there is always someone to turn to, to catch you if you are in difficulty. No one is ever left behind.” (Teacher)

    What do you think?
